Come join us in the field!

Looking to get outside? We’ll be hosting several hiking and paddling events throughout the month of August and we are looking for people to join us! Whether you are someone who is wanting to learn more about invasive species, or someone who just likes to be outside, then consider these events below!

Saturday, August 14th, Otsiningo Park Cleanup

Location: Otsiningo Park, Binghamton
Roll your sleeves up and join your local environmental groups to learn how to save our parks and open spaces from the spread of noxious, invasive plants!
Activities include presentations about the impact of invasive species, informational booths about local recreation and volunteer opportunities, as well as hands-on demonstrations about how to eradicate problem plants.
We will meet on the Northern side of the park, on the grass adjacent to the public restrooms (near the community gardens).

Saturday, August 28th, Aquatic Plant Sampling Tour with Steuben Brewery

Location: Woodville DEC Boat Launch, Steuben Brewery, Hammondsport

This is a education event where participants will learn how to identify aquatic plants and get the chance to find them while paddling in Keuka Lake! This is your chance to learn about our Finger Lakes directly from experts themselves and help track harmful invasive species!

After paddling, head back to Steuben Brewery for some food and drinks.
Kayaks and canoes will be provided to those without one.
Sunday, August 29th, Invasive Species Hike on the Finger Lakes Trail

Location: DEC office lot on Rt 245 in Naples, NY

Come join us and the Adirondack Mountain Club Genesee Valley Chapter for a hike down the Finger Lakes Trail! On our hike you will learn how to identify common invasive species and what you can do to stop them.
